OUR BODIES NEED TO MOVE. The old adage ‘use it or lose it’ applies to our bodies as the years go by. Fluid movement, not just stretching, over our entire body is essential to maintaining optimal functioning and comfort within ourselves.
Everybody’s body is different with different needs. This is why I give individual instruction and coaching. Together we come up with a plan for bringing optimal functioning and balance to your body. This might be in conjunction with bodywork sessions or as a stand alone Qigong session.
Qigong loosely translated means Qi – energy, gong – work, so, energy work. Qigong’s gentle movements are designed to move energy through the body, releasing blockages and stagnant energy, and gathering and storing fresh, positive energy from the universe.
Qigong or medical qigong as you will sometimes hear it called, is a system for taking control of, and responsibility for your own health. It incorporates series of gentle movements known as ‘forms’, breathing techniques, meditations and self massage. Over 2 million Chinese people practice Qigong or Tai Chi (forms that evolved from Qigong originally to train warriors), daily in parks in China. It is an essential part of their health care system.
Many studies have already been done in China about the health benefits of Qigong and it is increasingly being studied in the west now as positive results are coming to light about this amazing, ancient system.
Some of the benefits found include:
greater resilience to stress
a more positive attitude
improved posture leading to less muscular tension, joint strain and a healthier spine
decrease in hypertension
a healthier heart
improved functioning of internal organs, and even improved conditions for cancer patients.
Qigong is typically taught in forms – a series of movements strung together which will provide a variety of benefits.
The Short circuit
Our spine consists of many facet joints which will often get stuck in either an open or closed position as we sit at computers, drive cars, or sit in front of TVs. The short circuit is a series of movements designed to mobilize the facet joints, promote healthy movement of the spine, help prevent osteoporosis and circulate cerebral spinal fluid throughout the system, thus promoting healthy nerve function.
Wuji Short & Long Form
A series of gentle movements and stretches which help release muscle tension, promote healthy joint function, deep breathing, and a focus which keeps you in the present moment.
Organ Cleansing Form
For cleansing and toning internal organs, balancing meridians, grounding, and throwing off negative energy.
Other forms address stress, energy, balance and opening up the heart.
1 hour private session $50
